You Can’t Win
As this new site rolls out I’ll include some links and other information about recent projects. For much of the winter and spring I was scouting and managing for the feature film “You Can’t Win.” Directed by Robinson Devor and based on a book written in 1926, it tells the true story of Jack Black–a hobo, burglar and opium fiend who spent most of his life in the criminal underworld. It was a great project, but one with major challenges–namely, trying to shoot a period piece on a very limited budget.
Over the course of 20 days we shot portions of Seattle, Tacoma, Snohomish, Snoqualmie and Port Townsend. Basically anywhere we could locate buildings and elements that were representative of the period from 1890 to 1926. We also filmed onboard period trains, thanks to the folks out at the Northwest Railway Museum in Snoqualmie.
All of the small town shoots in particular were fun, as the communities were all enthusiastic and glad to be involved. The Peninsula Daily News out of Port Townsend did a nice write-up about our time out there, you can check it out here.
