Keep Film in WA!
Ever watch a movie that is set in Seattle, but obviously filmed in some other city or state? In recent years, one of the reasons that often occurs is because of competition from various production incentive programs. Over 38 states offer some sort of incentive that lures production work in exchange for rebates on the in-state expenditures made by a production. Here in Washington, we’ve had a program like that in place for several years, but the funds allocated for it by the state government have been pitifully small.
But the Washington State film industry is poised for a huge leap forward in 2022. The state legislature is currently considering two bills that would increase the annual incentive fund from $3.5 million dollars per year up to $20 million dollars per year.
An increase of that nature would revolutionize our local film industry, creating hundreds of new local jobs, and allowing guys like me to continue to work here in the State. It’s an exciting time, but we need help pushing the legislation over the finish line.
